Reverend James Elmslie, a Scottish Presbyterian minister, pastor, and friend to all, arrived in the Cayman Islands in the year 1846. He served the United Presbyterian churches in Prospect, Bodden Town, and George Town. With his ministry he brought our islands out of spiritual darkness and made known the truths of the Gospel.
A letter dated April 29th, 1858 from elders and representatives James S. Coe, W.M. Eden and Joseph Watler highly praised Rev. Elmslie. "You proved yourself a faithful servant of God to us all and we were truly blessed," the letter stated. "We bless and thank God for your service. And be assured Rev. Sir, that your name will not only be revered by us, but will be handed down to our latest posterity."
Hence the Presbyterian Church in George Town was named in memory of Reverend James Elmslie.
"Our long tried and zealous Pastor."
