Charles "Chuck" Fifer, 79, died March 5, 2005, at the Hospice Residences of Martin & St. Lucie, Stuart, Fla,

He was born in Springfield, Ill., and lived in Port St. Lucie for eight years, coming from Gainesville.

Before retirement, he worked for Ford Motor Co., Ypsilanti, Mich., for 32 years.

He served in the Army during World War II, and received the Purple Heart.

He was of the Lutheran faith. He was a member of the Citizens' Patrol of the Port St. Lucie Police Department. He enjoyed fishing.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Mabel Jean Fifer; sons, Charles Fifer of Mason, Ohio, Lawrence Fifer of Grass Lake, Mich., Timothy Fifer of Canton, Mich., Dennis Fifer of Port St. Lucie and Brian Fifer of Ypsilanti; daughters, Deborah Fifer of Dexter, Mich., and Kimberle Fifer of Port St. Lucie; 13 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Frances Fifer; and sister, Anna Fifer.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice Foundation, 1201 S.E. Indian St., Stuart, FL 34997.

Local services will be private.

Inurnment with honors and services will be in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va.
