Sudden Death Summons
John Addie, for many years a resident of this vicinity, was found dead in his bed at the home of his son, Geo. Addie, on Monday morning. His daughter in law called him a couple of times and getting no response finally went to his room and was very much astounded to find that his spirit had fled during the night. He had been in usual health the day before. Monday was the birthday of his wife who is an invalid, and he had planned on getting her a wheel chair for a present so that she could move about during the pleasant summer weather.
Funeral services were held at the Congregational church, Rev T H Jones officiating, and interment was at Lakeside. Relatives from afar who attended the funeral were his sister, Mrs Eden, and his brother, George Addie, from Rock County, Wisconsin; his grandchildren, Mrs Bert Richmond, Clair and Lester Mainland of Hannibal, Mo and his sons, Edmund Addie of Hastings, Nebr, and John Addie of Armour, S.D.
The deceased was born in Fifeshire, Scotland, February 12, 1843. At the age of two years he came to Rock Co. Wisconsin, with his parents, where he grew to manhood. He was united in marriage to Christina Beveridge on September 25, 1868. The family moved to Iowa and later to South Dakota, and in 1902 came to Cumberland. He is survived by his wife and three sons, John, Edward and George. One daughter, Margaret, became the wife of John Mainland and died in 1893.
