Kim John Ahern March 7, 2006

Kim J. Ahern, 68, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully at home after a courageous battle with cancer. Mr. Ahern retired in 1988 after 23 years of service with the Syracuse Fire Dept. He was awarded the Medal of Valor Award in 1971 and 1972, and was honored with the Arthur Jenkins Award in 1973. He also worked for the maintenance department at Community-General Hospital for 33 years. He was predeceased by his son, Dirk T. Ahern; sister, Dolores Christopher; and brother, Thomas King.

Surviving are his loving wife of 53 years, the former Barbara Blair; sons, Kim F. (Sharon) Ahern of Syracuse and Shannon E. (Teresa) Ahern of Marcellus; daughters, Katrina "Tina" M. Ahern-Harris of Auburn and Pamela L. (Michael) LaVarnway of Union Springs; special companion, "Daisy Mae"; sisters, Germaine (Charles) Olmstead of FL and Suzanne (Robert) McClary of Lafayette; brother, Anthony (Rose Marie) Ahern of Southwood; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. Friends may call Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Warners.
