Arthur W. was the 2nd born son and three daughters born to Richard and Eliza Booth Lanning. His bother, Andrew and he enlisted in the Civil War. Arthur served for one year in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Mississippi. Andrew never came home.
7 November 1870 Arthur married Alice C. Wilkinson Lanning, and five children were born to them. Two sons died in 1907 and 1908.
Arthur was a Blacksmith and Carriage-maker by trade. Later he engaged in the Lumber business until he was forced by ill health to give up the active life.
Now he rests among other family members.

Arthur W. Lanning, for many years a respected citizen of Brighton, died Thursday night, Jan 13, at his home in town, following a severe illness of about two weeks. He had been in poor health for five or six years.
The funeral was held at the Wesleyan church Sunday afternoon, Rev. D.T. Perrine officiating, and was largely attended by the many friends of the deceased.
Mr. Lanning was born in Northville, Mich., November 22, 1845. He was married to Miss Alice C. Wilkinson on November 7, 1870, and five children were born to them. Two boys died in 1907 and 1908 just eleven months apart, and one in infancy. Forty-six years ago he moved his family to Brighton where they have since resided.
In 1863 he enlisted in the navy, serving one year on the U.S. Mississippi. He was a blacksmith and carriage-maker by trade, which he worked at when he first came to Brighton. Later he engaged in the lumber business with F.T. Byne (sp) Hyne? & Son until he was forced by ill health to give up active life.
Mr. Lanning is survived by the wife, one sister, Mrs. H.B. Rose of Detroit; a son Roy of Detroit and daughter, Mrs. I.R. Sexton of Lansing. There are also ten grandchildren and one great grandson. Burial was made in Calvary cemetery.
