Roy Andrew was the first son of three, Harry Arthur, Volney Omar and daughter, Lela Maude born to Arthur W., son of Richard and Eliza Booth Lanning, and Alice C. Wilkinson Lanning.
19 Oct 1895 he was married to Lucy M. Cobb Lanning, daughter of Charles Harold and Agnes S. Nelson Cobb. Their marriage was blessed with seven children,sons, Charles Arthur, Paul Edward, Jack H., Raymond L.,and Richard William and two daughters, Helen V. and Dorothy. From their children were born 21 grandchildren and 45 great-grandchildren.
Roy owned and operated a grocery and meat market in Brighton for several years. He was honored during the Brighton Centennial as being the oldest surviving native son of Brighton.

Oldest Native Son
BRIGHTON--- Roy A. Lanning, 92, 1005 Washington, died at McPherson Community Health Center Thursday, May 16, following a long illness.
He was born January 15, 1876 in Brighton, the son of William (?) W. and Alice Wilkinson Lanning.
On October 19, 1895, he was married to Lucy M. Cobb in Brighton. Mrs. Lanning passed away January 18, 1959.
Mr. Lanning was honored during the Brighton Centennial as being the oldest surviving native son of Brighton. During the 1900's he owned and operated a grocery and meat market in Brighton.
Surviving is a daughter, Helen Lanning of Brighton; five sons, Charles of Detroit, Paul, Jack and Ray, all of Brighton, and Richard of Southfield; 21 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren and two nieces.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Monday from the Keehn Funeral Home with the Rev. T.D. Bowditch officiating. Burial was in the Fairview Cemetery, Brighton.
