Frederick was born in Simmenthal, Bern, Switzerland son of Jacob (Schmid)
and Magdeline Tucher Smith. He was (25) a resident of Logan, Cache, Utah when
he married Amanda Nellie Munk (18); who also was a resident of Logan. They married 8 May 1895 in the Logan Temple.

Death Friday night claimed Frederick Smith, 83, director of the Logan-Hyde Park and Smithfield Canal Company for 30 years, a farmer and construction man. He died in a local hospital about two hours following a heart attack.
He came to the United States at the age of four years with his parents, who were Mormon converts.
He and Amanda enjoyed 58 years of married life. Mr. Smith helped with construction of the Logan Temple and Tabernacle, and Utah State Agriculture College. He had worked as lumberman, logging in Logan Canyon, and also was a farmer in Benson ward.
Surviving are his widow, the following sons and daughters; Edwin M. Smith, Soda Springs; Mrs. Elmer P. (Blodwin) Sorensen, Howell; Aaron Fredrick Smith, Adrian Alma Smith, and Mrs. Shele (Ione) Raymond, Logan; Mrs. E.O. (Kenna) Bergeson, Dayton, Idaho, and Mrs. L.F. (Venice) Larson, Sacramento, California. Mr. Smith had two brothers, both deceased-Gotleib Smith and John Smith. Among his survivors are 24 grandchildren and 29 greatgrandchildren.
