Henrietta was born September 5, 1918, in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada, the second of five children of Thomas Henry and Grace Woolf Hatch. She was reared and educated in Cardston, Alberta, Canada. Then, at LDS Business College in Salt Lake City, she completed courses leading to employment as a legal secretary. Later, in Washington, D.C., in the Office of Under Secretary of War, she prepared weekly confidential reports for delivery directly to the President.
November 27, 1938, Henrietta married Sherman C. Young who was employed by the F.B.I. in Washington, D.C. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on April 17, 1942. Since December 1945, our family has lived in Salt Lake City.
Mother considers homemaking one of the great careers. Her life has emanated peace, grace and humility. Her love has been expressed through dedicated service to others.
She is a woman of strong faith and has served as president of ward and stake YWMIA and Relief Society organizations and also ward Primary president. She has also served seven years with her husband as ordinance workers in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
Henrietta's relations with family and dear friends are her most valued possessions. She cherishes her friends of the Great Books Club, and those of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers, and other organizations in which she has shared. As a Hyde Family member, she was delighted to participate with her husband in establishing the Orson Hyde Foundation, and being involved with other Latter-day pioneers.
Henrietta is survived by her husband, Sherman; and nine children, Carolyn Hunsaker (Duane), Sharon Yancey (Hugh), Judge David S. Young (Shauna), Mary Eggertsen (Thomas), Kathryn Hayes (Michael), Martha Moench (Mark), Robert S. Young (Laura), Susan Stott (Steven), and Linda Nielsen (Kenneth); 34 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She is survived also by two brothers, Thomas Hatch of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Stuart Hatch of Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
