Distressing Casualty
A distressing casualty occurred at the residence of David Miars, Sr., about three miles north of Wilmington, on Monday morning last, resulting in the death of his wife, an old lady aged 75 years. The deceased, Sarah Miars, had been in feeble health for some time, being very weak and afflicted with something like Saint Vitus' dance. On Monday morning her husband had gone out for a few moments leaving her sitting in front of the fireplace. Hearing a noise as of a fall, he hurried in and found her lying on the hearth, her clothing in a blaze, her face and neck badly burned. He carried her into the next room, where the fire was immediately extinguished with water, but too late; the unfortunate old lady lingered in an unconscious state until five o'clock in the afternoon, when she expired. By this sad event, Mr. Miars is left a widower in his 81st year, and he and their children will receive the kind sympathies of the whole community.
The funeral will take place on Thursday afternoon. Friends will meet at Mr. Miars' residence at 1 o'clock, and proceed to Center Meeting House, where service wil be held, after which the interment will take place in Center burying ground.

Clinton Co cemetery database (2018) lists her as "Miars, Sarah 'Sallie,'" and says, "B. 1800, D. 2-15-1875, nee Stout, "Sallie", husband David S. Miars."
