SAMARAS, Nicholas Formerly of Watertown and Scituate, Massachusetts passed away March 7, 2010 while residing in Jacksonville, Fl. He moved to Florida in 2003 to be with his immediate family. Nicholas is survived by his wife, Irene (Girardin) of Jacksonville, son, Steve Samaras of Jacksonville and a daughter and son-in-law, Sandy and Jeff Miller of Jacksonville and a sister, Marie Karahalis of Duxbury, Ma. His parents and brother, Harry Samaras predeceased him. Nicholas was born on April 11, 1925 in Watertown, MA to Sevastos and Artemis Samaras, Greek immigrants. He enlisted in the Army after high school and served in Europe during WWII. Upon his discharged, he attended Suffolk University and graduated with honors with a degree in business. After a few years of working in resorts in New England and Florida, he became co-owner of The Harborview Restaurant and The Grog Shop in Scituate Harbor for more than 20 years. After selling the business, he went to work for McLean Hospital in Belmont and then enjoyed retirement. Nicholas left a legacy of friends and family who he loved and were loved by him. He always had a kind word in his heart. He was a soft-spoken man however was always there when someone needed advice or an ear to lend. He enjoyed being around people. Besides the Jimmy Fund, he was a long time sponsor of numerous charities and organizations. He tried to make a difference for those who were less fortunate. For many years he was a proud member of the VFW and Shriners clubs. He was a supportive father and husband. He was able to spend his golden years with his family in Jacksonville, Florida. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice. Nicholas will be laid to rest at the Jacksonville National Cemetery in honor of his military service. There will be a private service for familymembersonly.
