Mrs. Margaret Ackerd
Succumbed at 7:05 Following Long Illness
Death at 7:05 this morning claimed Mrs. Margaret Ackerd, widow of J.C.Ackerd, at her home, 619 West Mahoning Street, aged 55 years. In ill health the past year she had been bedfast about three months and her death was not unexpected, although it proved a tremendous shock to her many friends here.
The deceased was born in Centerville, Pa., July 15, 1860, the daughter of James and Margaret Quinlisk. She was married to J.C. Ackerd in 1879 and came to Punxsutawney 30 years ago. During her long residence here she gained the esteem and love of every acquaintance. An ideal mother, she will be sorely missed. She was a devout member of the SS.Cosmas and Damian's Church in this city and active in the work of that church.
She leaves three sons and four daughters, John E., of Alhambra,California; Leonard, of Austin; Bernard, of Punxsutawney; Mrs. Ida Thomas, of Punxsutawney and Bernadette, at home. One son, James, and two daughters, an infant, Agnes, and Mrs. Leo Iddings preceded her in death. She also leaves, one brother, James W. Quinlisk, and one sister, Miss Elizabeth Quinlisk, both of this city, 20 grand childrenand seven great grandchildren.
While funeral arrangements have not been entirely completed, it is probable that service will be held Friday morning at 9 o'clock in SS.Cosmas and Damian Church with the Rt. Rev. Monsignor John Link officiating. Burial will be in the West End Catholic Cemetery (Calvary).
