Betsey M. COLEMAN born in 1808 at Pike, Bradford County, Pennsylvania was one of 13 Children born to Reuben L. Coleman, Sr. 1781-1848 and his wife, Jane SCOTT 1788-1870.

Reuben and Jane Coleman were the parents of 13 children:

1 - Medina "Dima" Coleman 1808 – 1883
2 - BETSEY M. COLEMAN 1809 – 1883
3 - Sheeler D. Coleman 1810 – 1870
4 - Archibald Coleman 1812 – 1893
5 - Rhoda Coleman 1813 – 1866
6 - Reuben JR. Coleman 1815 – 1880
7 - Nathan Coleman 1817 – 1880
8 - Roswell Coleman 1820 – 1912
9 - Clarissa Clara Coleman1822 – 1886
10 - Russell S. Coleman 1823 – 1887
11 - Joseph Coleman 1825 – 1887
12 - Oren Orrin H. Coleman PVT 1827 – 1903
13 - Homer Stephen Coleman 1828 – 1900

In 1806 Reuben Coleman married Jane SCOTT and settled in Pike township. It is said that he built the second house on Rockwell creek and that he and his sons cleared more land than any other family in Pike. His children, who married as follows were: Betsy to a Mr. Camp; Sheeler to Catharine Coats; Dima to a Mr. Camp; Archibald to Marinda Walker; Reuben 1st to Ursula Coats, 2nd to Mrs. Ann Essletine; Rhoda to Caleb Heath; Nathan to Parmela Brewster; Russell 1st to Harriet Goodell, 2nd to Frances Rogers; Roswell to Rowena Walker; Joseph to Irene Buttles; Clara to William Cline; Orrin to Susan Palmer; Homer to Jemima Palmer. Russell was the last survivor of the family.

Around 1820 Betsey M COLEMAN married Jonathan Camp 1806-1881. In the 1850 Census, Betsey and Jonathan were still living in Pennsylvania and had seven children.

The JONATHAN and BETSEY COLEMAN Camp family was on the move in 1870 - 1880. In 1870 they were living in Illinois and by 1880 the family had moved to Republic County, Kansas. On the 30th of May, 1883 Betsey M. COLEMAN Camp died at the age of 74 and was buried at White Rock Cemetery in Republic County, Kansas. Jonathan Camp's headstone has a place for Betsey Coleman's inscription; however it was never completed.
