Dexter was born April 7, 1922 in New Hebron, Mississippi. His parents were Jack Anderson and Mattie Pittman was the fifth of twelve children. He leaves one brother John Anderson in Detroit, Michigan. Three sisters, Rita, Nettie and Jewel all from New Hebron Mississippi and two sisters-in-law Mary and Sharon Anderson.
His first wife was Carrie Young. They adopted a loving son Robert Anderson.
In 1976 Dexter met and married Katie Staples which whom he shared 27 wonderful years.
