Mrs. Henrietta Appel passed away at her home a short way from the village, Sunday morning, death resulting from stomach troubles. The funeral was held from the German Lutheran church Tuesday afternoon, Rev. Schroeder, pastor of the church officiating. The deceased was born in Germany on October 8th, 1844, being a little over 77 years of age. She was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Shermer. She came to this country with her parents in 1856. In the year 1864 she was married to Jacob Appel, who preceded his wife to the grave two years ago. Their union was blessed with thirteen children, nine of whom are still living. The children are Mrs. Ella Leitl and Gusta Jackson of Sturgeon Bay; Mrs. Lillian Weiss, Mrs. Amanda Stephan, Mrs. Julia Jorns, George, William of Baileys Harbor; Henry of Jacksonport; Jacob of Sister Bay. Besides these she leaves two sisters, Mrs. Bertha Nelson and Mrs. Ernest Boose of Washington. All were in attendance at the funeral except Mrs. Bosse. Frank Kniskern, son in law of Escanaba, also came to the funeral. His wife, née Eliza Appel died three years ago. With the death of Mrs Appel, Baileys Harbor has lost another of its old and respected citizens. Much sympathy is extended the bereaved ones.
