Nelda Lyons Collier, a native Mobilian and lifelong resident of Mobile County born January 15, 1923, died March 18, 2010. She was a 5 year resident of the Grand Bay Convalescent Home. Mrs. Collier was a graduate of Alba High School and Huffstetler Business College. Her Employment included Brookley Air Force Base, the Head Start School, and together with her husband, owned and operated a seafood business and shrimp boat. She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church for many years. Mrs. Collier was preceded in death by her husband, Weldon "Doc" Collier, Sr., her beloved granddaughter, Ms. Kelly Spence, parents, Annie Covas-Lyons and Augustus Lyons, 2 brothers, Joe Lyons and A. L. Lyons. Her survivors include 2 daughters, Mary Ann (Tim) Spence, Francine Finch, 2 sons, Weldon (Kathy) Collier, Jr., and Billy (Sharon) Collier, grandchildren, Audra Esfeller, Tara Alligood, Weldon Collier, III, Danny Collier, Wade Spence, Joey Finch, Maxine Eldridge, Holly Marrow, Erin Collier, and Betty Monroe, 3 step-grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild, 2 sisters, Gussie Mallon, and Jessie Mae Collier, 1 brother, Harvey (Geneva) Lyons, sister-in-law, Marietta (Dan) Thompson, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 23, 2010 at 10 A.M. at St. Edmond By the Sea Catholic Church on Dauphin Island. Visitation will be 5 P.M. to 8 P.M. Monday evening at the funeral home with the Rosary at 7 P.M.. Interment will be in the Dauphin Island Community Cemetery.
