Lowene Dagen, 89, succumbed to injuries she sustained in a Feb. 25 fall outside her home on March 26, 2008, at Heidi's Place in Wasilla. She would have been 90 on Mother's Day of this year.

Dagen was born and raised in Michigan, the 11th of 15 children born to Herman and Sarah (Sadie) Aurich. Lowene Aurich married Louis Arthur Dagen and they raised their family there. She had a long and rewarding career in nursing and, after retirement, she continued to care for others through hospice. The Dagens loved to travel and be in the outdoors, and they logged many miles together in their motorhome all over the United States and Canada.

Lowene Dagen came to Alaska in 1994 and settled in Wasilla soon after. She had lived at Williwaw Manor for nearly 12 years and loved her community. She had been an active and faithful member of Lamb of God Lutheran Church of Wasilla.

She was preceded in death by Louie, her husband of 45 years; daughter Patricia Jo; grandson Stevan L. Baker; her parents and nearly all of her siblings.

Dagen is survived by her daughter Sharon (Dale) Shaw of Anchorage; grandson Paul (Michelle) Baker; great-grandchildren Sage, Maggie and Samuel Baker, all of Wasilla; great-grandson Stevan C. and Jenny Baker and her children, Nathan and Rosie of Colorado; great-great-granddaughter Madison Kay Baker of Michigan; also by her granddaughter Kimberly (Nigel) Shaw-Walker; great-grandsons Matthew Henry Shaw and Christopher, Craig and Cameron Walker of Scotland.

Also surviving are her son Dennis Paul Sr. and Janet Dagen; grandchildren Dennis Paul Jr., Sandra Jo and James Fredrick Dagen and their families, all of Michigan.

She is also survived by her sisters Betty Todd of Michigan and Bernadine Sullivan of Florida; longtime childhood friend Leone Nielson and longtime friend and neighbor Margie Snith, both of Michigan; and many, many nieces and nephews.

Memorial Service for Dagen will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 12 at the Lamb of God Lutheran Church of Wasilla. Her family asks that in lieu of flowers, any memorial gifts be given to her church. Her cremains will be interred at the family gravesite in Michigan at a later date.

Valley Funeral Homes & Crematory of Wasilla and Palmer assisted the family.
