George Lynch was a 3rd Corporal in the Lancaster County Militia (of Pennsylvania), where he lived when the American Revolutionary War began between the United Colonies & Great Britain. What I find curious is that his headstone is much newer than other stones I've seen from Revolutionary War veterans, so it is likely another descendant of George Lynch may have purchased this newer stone more recently. I'd love to meet them & thank them! George Lynch was born in Scotland in 1748 to Charles Lynch (1704-1753) & Sarah née Clark (1716-1792). He immigrated to Colonial America about 1768. He married Margaret "Peggy" nee McCorkle, the daughter of Archibald McCorkle (1698-about 1747) & Sarah née Millar/Miller, about 1769 in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania & issued 8 known children. George Lynch enlisted in the Lancaster County Militia & served in the 5th Battalion under Colonel James Crawford Baerfan. The Lynch family moved to Virginia (present-day West Virginia) in 1777, after the Revolutionary War was won & the United States of American was established. George Lynch died in 1821 at 73 years old. His wife Sarah died two years later, her burial location is unknown at this time.
