Dr. Henry Curtis was a very distinguished and respected citizen and physician in Hanover County, VA. He was born in Boston, MA and moved to Hanover with his mother when he was young. He attended the University of Maryland Medical School. He was very involved in his Cold Harbor/Mechanicsville, VA community. He married 10th President John Tyler's sister. Dr. Curtis was lying in bed ill when a cannon ball went through his door during the Battle of Gaines Mill. He lived a month after the battle. He and his wife were buried at Puccoon, his Hanover homestead, but were later reinterred at Forest Lawn Cemetery
