John & his wife Margaret were married in Ohio and soon moved to Indiana where they became the parents of nine children: Joseph, Mary Ann & Rachel Elizabeth were born in Ohio & William, Thomas W., Almira V., Margaret, John W.,& Franklin were born in Indiana. Their son Joseph who mar. Sarah Mock died shortly after the Civil War. Their daughter Mary Ann mar. Isaac B. Parr & their daughter Rachel Elizabeth mar. George Washington Jones & settled in Willow Hill, Jasper Co., IL.

Stretcher was the only professional surveyor in Marion County about whom even this much information is available.
