Arthur Turner was killed almost instantly Wednesday afternoon at 4:15 o'clock, in the mines at Monarch, by the explosion of a delayed shot of dynamite. Mr. Turner and his partner had put in two shots, one in each side of the room they were working in. One shot went off, and after waiting until they thought the other shot was not going off, the men both went into the room. As Turner was just opposite the shot, on the other side of the room, it went off with such force that several large chunks of coal were hurled against him. There were several marks on the face and other parts of the body, but one in the abdomen is supposed to have been the fatal wound. The unfortunate man lived but an hour after the accident, while his partner was unharmed.
Arthur Turner was forty-five years of age, and leaves a wife and four children. He was a member of the Odd Fellow and Knights of Pythias lodges at Cambria, Wyoming. The funeral services at the residence at Monarch this morning, were in charge of the I.O.O.F., while at the Episcopal church in this city Rev. MacWilliams preached a funeral sermon, and the K. of P. ritualistic ceremonies were performed at the grave, in Mount Hope cemetery. A special train bore the remains, the family and about 100 brother lodge men from Monarch to Sheridan this morning.
Mr. Turner is said to have been a hard-working, conscientious man. His widow and children have the sincere sympathy of the entire community.
