Joseph Abner, 82, died in Klamath Falls Sunday.
He was born in Vienna, Austria. He came to the United States, moving to Chicago when he was 6 years old. He left Chicago in his early teens, hitchhiking across the country, and working odd jobs along the way.
He worked at a lumber mill in Weed, Calif. before moving to Klamath Falls about 60 years ago. He worked for Pelican Lumber Co., Shaw-Bertrum Lumber c., Ewauna Lumber Co. and Weyerhaeuser Lumber Co., from which he retired in 1970.
He enjoyed camping, hunting and traveling.
He is survived by his wife,Ruth Abner, Klamaths; son and daughter-in-law Tom and Ida Abner, Everett, Wash.; daughter and son-in-law, Joanne and Gus Gestvang, Klamath Falls; brother, John Abner, Chicago, Ill.; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held from the chapel of Ward's Klamath Funeral Home Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. with Rev. Lee Shafer officiating.
