Potter County Justice of the Peace Terry Miller pronounced John Willard Watterson, 69, dead at the scene at 2:54 p.m. Mr. Watterson's wife, Luella Herrington Watterson, 64, died at 3:21 p.m. Monday at Northwest Texas Hospital in Amarillo, according to the DPS.
Miller ordered autopsies on the couple.
The wreck occurred at 2:33 p.m Monday. Luella Watterson was driving a 1986 Mercury sedan north on State Highway 136 when a southbound 1989 Chevrolet pickup driven by Jeremy Lee Black, 19, Fritch, reportedly crossed the center line and struck the Watterson's vehicle head-on, according to the DPS.
Jeremy's wife, Jyme Lynn, 20, and their four-week-old son were passengers in the pickup. Jeremy Black and the baby were treated at Northwest Texas Hospital and released, according to a hospital spokesperson. Jyme Black remained hospitalized this morning in serious but stable condition at NWTH where she is being treated for broken bones.
According to a DOS spokesman, the troopers have not determined the cause of the accident.
All occupants of both vehicles were wearing seat belts, according to the DPS.
Services for Luella and John Watterson are pending with Brown Funeral Directors.

Funeral services for John "J.W." Watterson, 69, and Luella Watterson, 64, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Faith Covenant Church with the Rev. Kenneth Sheppard, pastor, officiating.
Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery by Brown Funeral Directors.
Mr. and Mrs. Watterson died Monday, June 12, 1995, in a car accident between Fritch and Amarillo.
A native of Albright, W.Va., Mr. Watterson had been a Borger area resident for 47 years. He was an operator with Phillips Copolymer Plant before retiring in 1984. He was a World War II Army veteran.
A native of Clovis, N.M., Mrs. Watterson had been a Borger area resident for 47 years. She was a homemaker, and was a member of Faith Covenant Church.
J.W. Watterson and Luella Herrington were married Jan. 29, 1950 at Phillips.
Survivors include two daughters, Charlotte Rose of Spring, and Rita Fowler of Borger; and four grandchildren.
Mr. Watterson is also survived by four sisters, Maxine Krause and Helen Watterson, both of Port Arthur; Jessie Sponsler of Nederland; and Kathleen Eastwood of Charleston, W.Va.
Mrs. Watterson was preceded in death by her father, H.B. "Bo" Herrington in 1980; and her mother, Mary Herrington in 1989.
She is also survived by a sister, Helen Walker of Borger.
Casketbearers will be Robert Tabor, Shannon Browning, Travis Winegart, Glen Phelps, Glen Meharg, John Fowler, Ron Brandon, and Phil Williams.
