I will post this initial draft of info, just for now. And will rewrite more coherently soon.

Sam was the 6th child of David William Money (1836-1912) and Hannah Eliza Crumley Money (1834- 1911). (See David William's memorial for more possible Money info.) David Wm's parents had lived in Surrey and Yadkin Counties in NC, and Hannah Crumley's parents had lived in the Newberry, SC area. They are newly married, no children listed yet and listed in the 1860 census in Chattooga County, GA. By 1880, they are in Cherokee County, AL with the six children.

  • William David Money 1862–1935
  • John H Money 1865–1937
  • Alexander F Money 1867–1954
  • Georgia Mae Money 1869–1949
  • Hattie Crumley Money 1872–1951
  • Samuel Money 1874-1940

In the 1900 Census for Cherokee Co., Cedar Bluff, David and Hannah are 64 and 66, and Sam is single, 25, living with them. Sam married Lucy Johnson in May 1904. Her Johnson and Stimpson grandparents had come down from North Carolina before settling in Cherokee Co. AL.

Sam and Lucy first had 2 sons, Gordon 1911 and Hobart 1913, both dying (I believe) from diptheria. Then son Earl Johnson Money, 1915–1980, son Fred Russell Money, 1918–1966 and daughter Alice Hannah Money, 1920–2005 (my mother).

The Coosa River News and the Cherokee County Herald published his death notice that week in Oct 1940. However, both incorrectly stated his widow was Mrs. Hannah Crumby Money. Hannah Crumley Money was his mother, who died in 1911. Sam's (only) wife was Lucy C. Johnson Money. (They were my grandparents.)
