Fred Ehlers, 75 years old, a resident of the Leonard Community for many years, passed away Sunday, February 28th. His death was caused by pneumonia following a slight stroke.
Mr. Ehlers was born in Hanover, Germany, April 8, 1861 and came to this county as a young man. On April 30, 1886, he was married at Lester Prairie, Minnesota. Mrs. Pauline Ehlers, his beloved help-mate, died October 22, 1929. Mr. and Mrs. Ehlers were blessed with twelve children, four of whom, three daughters and one son, having preceded him in death. Since the death of his wife, Mr. Ehlers has been cared for by his daughter, Miss Emma Ehlers, and Albert and Edward Ehlers on their homestead.
Mr. Ehlers was a charter member of the Zion Lutheran Church of Leonard of which he was a deacon at the time of his death, an office he had held for many years. He was conscious of the need of Christian instruction and worship and was very energetic in the establishment of a Lutheran Church in Leonard.] Mr. Ehler is survived by the following children: Mrs. Frank Bailey of Pinewood, William of Willmar, Emma, Henry, Fred W., Albert, Edward and Mrs. Levi Lenuson of Leonard, and also nine grandchildren, six nieces and three nephews, as well as a host of friends.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday at the Zion Lutheran Church in Leonard be Rev. G. Harold Lundgren of Clearbrook and interment was made in the Lutheran Cemetery near Leonard under arrangements of the Neujahr Funeral Home of Bagley.
