DEATH OF PIONEER STEAMER CAPTAIN.
SAN FRANCISCO, Jan 2 - Captain Andrew Nelson, president of the California Transportation Company, and an old and respected pioneer of this city, passed away at his home here yesterday. Captain Nelson built and piloted the first steamer to navigate the Sacramento River, the Reform, and later from this beginning built up a very profitable transportation business. The deceased was a native of Sweden.
