Merna Joanne Carlson, age 53, Eland, died Wednesday, November 24, 1971 at Wausau South Hospital.

She was born October 19, 1918 in Mattoon the daughter of the late Edward Kaufman and Nellie (Ringstad) Kaufman.

On May 3, 1936 Merna was united in marriage to Arthur Carlson in Wittenberg. He survives.

In addition to her husband, survivors include her mother, Nellie Kaufman; five sons, Melvin, Douglas (Christine), Randy, Ricky and Ronald; three daughters, Sharon (John) Philipp, Donna (Hubert) Stankowski and Tina Carlson; eight grandchildren; three brothers, Mervil Kaufman, Peter Kaufman and Roger Kaufman; and five sisters, Nadine (Glen) Fischer, Marjorie (Wallace) Wolff, Carol (Melvin) Discher, Patricia (LeRoy) Carlson and Phyllis (Gary) Meidl.

Funeral services were held November 27, 1971 at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Wittenberg. Interment was in the parish cemetery.
