Louis Stitz, for many years a popular and familiar figure in the business life of the city, died at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in the family home, 912 South Eleventh street. Death followed an illness of four years. Mr. Stitz was 81 years old.
Born in Lafayette, Oct. 13, 1869, Mr. Stitz was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph Stitz and was a life-time resident of the city. For 43 years he was in charge of the linen department of the old Thieme and Schuessler store; in 1932 he went to Loeb's as a salesman, retiring in 1947 because of ill health. Few persons have been active longer in the business life of the city or have become so well and favorably known.
Mr. Stitz served as a county jury commissioner under the late Judge Homer W. Hennegar and was a director of the First Federal Savings and Loan association. He was a member of St. James Lutheran church and at various times served it in many official capacities. Mr. Stitz was first married to Hulda Sattler, and after her death, was married to Anna A. Prien in 1904. Surviving are the widow; two children, Miss Gertrude T. Stitz, at home, and Mrs. William L. Hull, Champaign, Ill., with a brother, Otto Stitz, local businessman.
