James E. Abney, 90, died Wednesday afternoon in a nursing home in Springfield. Mr. Abney was born in Macon, Co., MO, and moved to Stone County as a young man, then to the Linden community in Christian County where he farmed for 47 years. Due to failing health he sold his farm four years ago and moved to Springfield. He was married to Miss Mary Kelley and to this union were born nine children. His wife and four children preceded him in death. Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Elmer Montgomery, Auburn, WA, and Mrs. Billie Porter, Rogersville; three sons, Jimmie of Modesto, CA, John and Charley of Ozark; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at the Chaffin Funeral Home of Ozark, conducted by Rev. Reg Mapes, with burial in McCracken Cemetery under direction of Chaffin.
