Foster Pointer Taken By Illness

Funeral services for Foster Hubbard Pointer, 77, of Decatur, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Samuel Pointer, some of the earliest settlers of Courtland in Lawrence County, are to be Thursday at 3 p.m. at the First Methodist Church here.

Mr. Pointer was born January 8, 1878 and died Tuesday evening at 10:30 at his residence, 606 Ferry Street NE, following a long illness.

Body will be returned to the residence this afternoon at 4 and will remain there until time for the service Thursday.

Deceased had shown great interest in civic affairs of the city and was a member of the First Methodist Church for 50 years, having served as a steward for many years.

In 1903 he married Mabel Hughes, Decatur, at the First Methodist Church. Surviving in addition to the widow are four daughters, Mrs. E.B. Garner, of Paducah, Ky; Mrs. Loudie P. Carey, of Decatur; Mrs. Sam D. Nettles, of Decatur; Mrs. Edward B. James, of Karlsruhe, Germany; three sisters, Mrs. Sam H. Malone Sr; Mrs. Wilbur Bailey Sr, both of Decatur; and Mrs. W.Y. Bunn of Laredo, Texas; one brother, Harry Pointer, of Decatur; six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Mr. Pointer came to Decatur in 1895 and was in the grocery business until his retirement about eight years ago. He entered the profession in 1900. He was a charter member of the Kiwanis Club and was a Mason.

The Rev. Minar Triplett is to conduct the service with interment in City Cemetery directed by Brown Funeral Co.

Nephews will be active pallbearers.
