John was the son of Sergeant James Wallace (1675-1762) who immigrated from Glasgow, Scotland and Mary Hyatt(1682-1766) a widow from Norwalk, CT. John married Martha Scofield in North Salem in 1746 and had at least one son, Samuel, who is buried beside him. John's stone reads: "In memory of John Wallace who died March 2, 1812 in the 103rd year of his life". His official military stone reads "JOHN WALLACE, PVT NY MIL 4 REGT, REVOLUTIONARY WAR, MARCH 2, 1811"
