Private, Company I, 18th Pennsylvania Cavalry. Enlisted on October 10, 1862. James took his brother Reuben's place because Jim was single and Reuben had several small children. According to the History of Overton, Bradford County, Pennsylvania, he was captured at Brandy Station on October 11, 1863 and later exchanged. Captured at Mine Run, Virginia, on May 5, 1864. Died of chronic diarrhea in prison at Andersonville, Georgia, on June 10, 1864. Also listed as I. Rhinebolt and Reinbolt. Age also listed as 21.

Born on March 2, 1833. Headstone erected in Methodist Church Cemetery, Overton Township, Bradford County, Pennsylvania.
