Enlisted Oct 14. 1861 at Venago Co PA at the age of 24 with his 21 year old brother, Isaac. Mustered into 4th PA Calvery, Co I. Both brothers held the rank of Private.
Both brothers were captured and held at Andersonville POW camp where they died of scurvy within one week of each other. They are both buried at Andersonville Prison Cemetery.
