Caleb Fulkerson was apprenticed to a tailor early in life and followed that trade for many years. In the latter part of the Revolutionary War, at the age of 19 years, he enlisted as a musician. After joining a scouting party he was captured and confined in a New York prison for 8 to 9 months in very uncomfortable quarters. In June 1782, he was exchanged and returned to his home and business. In 1787 he married Deborah Tunison. They lived about 10 years in New Jersey, when they moved to Newtown, probably now Elmira, Chemung Co., and about 1805, they settled on lot 11 of Watson's Purchase in what is now the Town of Starkey, Yates Co., New York. At a very early period they kept a public house, which was a place for many public gatherings. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church at Eddytown. He had a large farm.

Inscription

"Here lies a patriot of the Revolution
and a soldier of the cross.
"A willow tree that once did stand,
that was planted by his hand,
has now enclosed his body round,
lies mouldering in the ground."
