Sarah Brooks Abbott, 90, of Amherst, passed away on Wednesday, February 14, 2018, at the Guggenheimer Nursing Home. Born on July 22, 1927, in Lynchburg, she was the daughter of the late Robert Lee Brooks and the late Estelle Cyrus Brooks. Sarah was a loving daughter, mother, sister and nanny; and a member of Sandy Bottom Christian Church. In addition to her parents, Sarah was preceded in death by her son, Lester Wayne Tyree; and one son-in-law, Archie Tomlin. Sarah is survived by two daughters, Connie T. Tomlin of Madison Heights and Wanda A. Milton of Amherst; one sister, Mary Virginia Goff of Madison Heights; nine grandchildren, A.W. Tomlin (Micki), Leslie Wright (David), John Tomlin (Christy), Stephanie Duff (Rodrell), Bridgett Milton (Daniel), Ronnie Tyree (Michelle), Robert Tyree (Alicia), Lisia Tyree and Scott Tyree (Renee); fourteen great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; nephew, Lyle Goff; and other loving family members and friends. A funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday, February 17, 2018, at Whitten Monelison Chapel with the Rev. Jim Freeman officiating. Interment will follow at Briarwood Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
