ARTHUR EMERY BATMAN

Arthur Emery Batman, son of Jerry and Crecelious Batman, was born Oct. 31, 1887, near Milltown, Ind., and passed away Aug. 17, 1961, at the Lucas County Memorial hospital at the age of 73 years, 10 months and 17 days. Mr. Batman had been in ill health for the past three years.

On Dec. 17, 1909, he was united in marriage to Nora Frances Babcock at Sullivan, Ill., and they established their home near Dalton City, Ill. Three years later, in 1912, they returned to Milltown, Ind. Then, in the spring of 1918, they moved to Lucas county, Iowa and have lived in Lucas and Wayne counties since.

To this union five children were born: Robert Matthew of Derby; Lois Marie Mumford of Arcata, Calif., and three sons who passed away in infancy, Roland Emery and twin boys, Ralph and Albert.

Surviving are his wife, Nora, son, Robert and his wife, Maymie Marie Batman, daughter, Lois and her husband, Charles Wayne Mumford; six grandchildren, Ronald Lee, Sharon Marie, Janice Kay and Robert W. Mumford and Arthur Harry and Frances Batman; two great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Hattie Walk of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Effie Poe of Simmesport, La.; two brothers, Sherman Batman of Indianapolis, Ind., and Walter Batman of Marengo, Ind.

Those preceding him in death were his father, mother, three sons, four sisters, Mrs. Josie Kay of Milltown, Ind., Mrs. Jessie Vance of Hardinburg, Ind., Mrs. Ida Babcock of Derby and Mrs. Ada Ferguson of Manchester, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mr. Batman was active in community affairs as assessor, trustee and census taker in Lucas and Wayne Counties.

Mr. and Mrs. Batman celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Dec. 17, 1959.

Mr. Batman accepted Christ as his personal Saviour and was baptized in 1959 into the fellowship of the Sharon Baptist church by the Rev. P. H. Blunt. Mr. Batman's firm faith in his Heavenly Father has been such a comfort during his long illness.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Aug. 20, at the Beardsley Funeral home. The Rev. P. H. Blunt, the Rev. W. N. Browning and the Rev. James E. Nelson officiated at the services. Interment was in the Chariton cemetery.
