Francis "William" Geisse was a wealthy merchant in Philadelphia. William was born about 1782 in Hofgeismar,Westphalia, Hesse Kassel, Germany. On August 13, 1807, at First Reformed Church in Philadelphia, he married to Eliza Wilhelmina Ginder, daughter of August Ginder (1762-1807) and Anna Elizabeth Gillman (1770-1807)

F. William Geisse owned the store at 60 then 116 South Front Street in Philadelphia, the business first called "Geisse & Denckla", changed to "William Geisse and Sons", selling furs and glasses, etc. He was a well-known person in this community.
