Bay City Knights Templar Will Conduct Funeral Wednesday Afternoon
Temple Emery died at the Masonic home, Alma, at 5 o'clock Monday morning after a severe illness of about a month, although his health has been failing for about two years. Death was not unexpected since it was known tow weeks ago that there was no hope for his recovery, and announcement of his dissolution was looked for a week ago.
Deceased was a native of Maine, which has furnished so many of her sons to the lumbering business of Michigan and other western states, at Bradley, July 5, 1841. He came west when he was 20 years of age and located at Peshtigo, Wisconsin, and was there in the fall of 1871 when that lumbering town was burned out entirely by a disastrous forest fire.
In 1872 he came to Bay City, where he was employed in a sawmill for some time at Zilwaukee, and then went to Alpena. In March 1877, he removed to East Tawas, and operated a sawmill. Hiram A., a brother, being associated with him, the firm being known as Emery Bros. Subsequently, the firm dissolved and the Holland-Emery Lumber Co. was formed, with Temple Emery and Nelson Holland, of Buffalo, as the leading stockholders,
Mr. Emery is survived by two sons, William Ogden, of Detroit, and Temple Jr. of Cleveland: two daughters, Mrs. John Gregory of Cleveland and Mrs. William Bigwood, of Toronto and one brother, Ard G. Emery.
