Tractor Accident Is Fatal to Lee Farmer
Funeral services for Bernard A. (Bingo) Sanders, 46, Donnellson rural route will be at 10 a.m. Friday in St. Mary's Catholic church, West Point.
Mr. Sanders died at about noon Tuesday in Sacred Heart hospital here of injuries received in a tractor accident near his home two miles south and two miles west of Houghton. Officiating at the Friday services will be a brother of the deceased the Rev. Raymond Sanders (SVD) of Conesus, N.Y. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery, West Point.
Authorities said the accident happened at about 9:15 a.m. on a county road about 100 feet south of the driveway to the Sanders farm.
Sheriff's officers said a rear wheel of the tractor apparently got off into a ditch and hit a culvert. The tractor flipped over on Sanders, pinning him. Rescued by neighbors, he was brought to Sacred Heart hospital in an ambulance.

Life
Mr. Sanders was born Jan. 4, 1922, at Houghton (IA) and was a lifelong resident of the area.
On Aug. 16, 1952, he married Jeanice Lohman, who survives. He was a member of St. Mary's church, West Point; the Holy Name Society of the church; the Knights of Columbus, Houghton; and Gallitzin Assembly of the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus of Fort Madison. He was a veteran of World War II.
Mr. Sanders was a member of the Lee County board of education.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his mother, Mrs. Anna Sanders St. Paul; three sons, Melvin, Chris and Steven, all at home; two daughters, Joan and Kristie Ann, both also at home; three other brothers, Herman Sanders, West Point, Edmund Sanders, Galveston, Ill. and Joseph Sanders, Scottsdale, Ariz.; and four sisters, Mrs. Bernard (Leona) Conrad, St. Paul, IA, Mrs. Ralph Peiffer, Washington, Iowa,, Sister Mary Roseann (OSF), Chicago, and Mrs. LeRoy Steffensmeier, West Point. He was preceded in death by his father, William.
