The Wellington Leader August 18, 1988

William Roy Peggram, 91, died Sunday, Aug. 14, in Heritage Convalescent Home in Amarillo. He was a long-time Quail resident, until he moved into Wellington in 1984.

Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 17, at the Quail Baptist Church. The Rev. Elvis Pitts, pastor, officiated, assisted by the Rev. Jerry Harrison, pastor of Dodson Church of the Nazarene. Burial was in Quail Cemetery by Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors. Pall bearers were grandsons: William Clayton Peggram, Tim Peggram, Jody Peggram, Toby Henson, Rod Epple and Jeffrey Camp. Honary pall bearers were Delbert White, Donald Langley, Paul Fielding, Jack Neeley, Dr. Ben Carson, and Mark White.

Mr. Peggram was born in Ryan, Ok., at that time the Indian Territory. His father was William Peggram and his mother was Nancy Jane Wood Peggram. He came with his family to Collingsworth County in a covered wagon in the early 1900's.

He married Lola Smithers on Oct. 8, 1922, in Tucumcari, N.M. They moved to Quail in 1926 from Las Lunas, N.M. She preceded him in death in 1986.

He was a farmer and rancher. Mr. Peggram was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in World War I. He was a member of Glynn Moore Post, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Frank King Post of the American Legion and of the
Farm Bureau. He was a Baptist.

Survivors are three sons, B.J. Peggram of Wiggins, Colo., Jim Peggram of Nazareth, Gene Peggram of Boys Ranch; two daughters, Mabel Mitchell of Fairfax, Ala., and Opal Camp of Wellington. 11 grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.
