Adopted from Best Friends Animal Sanctuary October 2003, Yancy was an energetic, happy and sweet soul. Prior to her rescue, Yancy had endured terrible abuse and neglect. Her collar had not been adjusted from when she was a puppy and it had to be surgically removed from her neck. Her caretaker and trainer at the Best Friends was John Garcia who became a star of the series Dogtown. I ran into John in Vegas and introduced myself. I knew that after so many years and hundreds of dogs in his care, that he would probably not remember Yancy. However, I wanted to tell him thank you for saving our sweet pup. His eyes lite up when I mentioned her name and he went on to describe her rescue, her personality and her expressive Aussie/Border Collie face. I think I could hear Yancy's tail wag all the way from the Rainbow Bridge. My tears flowed as I explained how a fast growing cancer had ended her life the winter before.

Yancy loved being a "mom" to foster kittens. She gently won over every one that came through our doors. She would groom, snuggle and herd them. They in return, loved her to pieces.

Yancy taught me that it is not what you can teach an old dog, but what an old dog can teach you.

Yancy, you are forever in our hearts. See you at the Bridge, sweetheart.
