Jacob was the son of Aafke Rus and father unknown. He was married to Ella Klimstra Rus and was the father of Tena Rus Meinema, Raymond Rus, and Hilda Rus Graham. He came to America in approximately 1906 and came in through New York. He worked for several years in Michigan for a dairy farmer and when he had saved up enough money, he moved to Illinois and bought his own farm. He was killed in a train crash in 1943 on his way home from a picnic and was preceeded in death by his wife Ella.
