First-born child* of Arie De Reus and Magcheltje Van Der Creek to grow to adulthood and marry. Arie Jr. came to America, departing from London with his parents and three brothers, Pieter, Marinus and Nelis, and arriving in New York Harbor on May 15, 1850 aboard the York Town.

He married Grietje Bruggeman on April 21, 1859. They had 15 children, 10 who survived to adulthood and 9 of whom had families of their own providing 49 grandchildren. The children: Mattie, Arie III, Peter, Adriantje, Henry, William, Adrianus, Nellie, John, Mae, William, Ned, Gradus, Gradus, and Marinus. These children died in infancy: Andrianus, Gradus #1 and 2.

* Arie's older sister, Neeltje was two years old when she died and then an older brother that died at birth and then Arie. See his parents memorial for all of his siblings.

Arie was married twice. His second wife was Grietje "Gertie" Dykhuizen. They were married on March 2, 1890 in Pella, Marion County, Iowa.
