Mahoning Dispatch, Fri, 20 June 1947
"Sydenham B. Brooke, 64, died at his home in Ellsworth Wednesday evening of a heart ailment. Mr. Brooke was born in Ellsworth Nov. 11, 1882, a son of Dr. and Mrs. George Brooke, and most of his life was spent in Ellsworth. Prior to his retirement, he was widely known as a livestock dealer. In 1902 he married Blanche Snyder of North Jackson. She died 22 years ago. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Francis Bare, a son, George W. Brooke, and a grandson, all of Ellsworth. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday at the Williams Funeral Home, where the family will meet friends Friday evening. Burial will be in the Ellsworth cemetery."

Mahoning Dispatch, Fri, 1 Oct 1926
"Early Monday morning thieves broke into the building of the Powers Motor Co. on East Main street and stole twelve large Firestone automobile tires valued at more than $150. The visitors were discriminating, taking no small size tires. Entrance was gained to the basement through a window which Mr. Powers believes had been previously unlocked by the thieves and a door opening into the salesroom was jimmied. Mr. Powers had been in Cleveland Sunday and did not return until after midnight and at that time there was no evidence of his business place having been visited. His loss is complete as he carried no burglar insurance.
Last Thursday night the store of S. B. Brooke in Ellsworth was broken into and his entire stock of tires stolen. His loss is considerably greater than that of Mr. Powers. The methods employed by the thieves lead to the belief that both jobs were done by the same parties who were familiar with surroundings."
