At his request, no service will be held for Robert Renner who died April 30, 2010. He had been a Vancouver, WA resident since 1984. Mr. Renner was born Jan. 22, 1921, in Kelso, WA. He graduated from Kelso High School. Bob lived most of his life in the Cougar area of the upper Lewis River. Much of his boyhood was spent in the company of early day U.S. Forest Service workers, some of whom built and served on the fire lookout on Mt. St. Helens.
Bob married Ruth Matheson on Feb. 27, 1942 at Longview, WA.
In the late 1930's he worked as a fire lookout on the Columbia National Forest, now the Gifford Pinchot National Forest. During WW II he served in the combat engineers of the U.S. Army's 10th Mountain Division in the Aleutian Islands and Italy where he was awarded the Bronze Star.
After the war he worked in areas of Washington, Oregon and California as a log scaler and log buyer and retired from RSG Forest Products of Kalama, WA in 1983 where he worked for many years as a log and timber buyer. Bob was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the National Association of the 10th Mountain Division, and the International Federation of Mountain Soldiers.
Survivors include his sons, Mark and Donald W.; two granddaughters; three great-granddaughters; and one great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth; son, Roger Paul; and sister, Beatrice.
