According to Crutes official records the 66 Ga. Infantry Regiment was composed primarily from conscripts taken from the camps of instruction at Decatur Ga. and Macon Ga. The companies appear to have been organized at various times in August and September, 1863 and formed into a regiment on October 13, 1863. For a time the regiment was at Camp Cobb and Quincy, Fla. but was made part of General Johnston's Army of Tennessee soon thereafter and served with this command to the end of the war. In February or March 1865, the regiment merged into the newly organized 1st Battalion Confederate Infantry, of which only a fragmentary record exist.

Pvt. Daniel Stephens record reads: Listed on muster roll of Company C, 66th Regiment Ga. Volunteer Infantry Army of Tennessee C.S.A., Recruited as Private August 1, 1863, as a substitute for F.J. Wright. Died in McFerrin Hospital, Forsyth Ga. of Chronic Diarrhea August 31, 1964.
