Shirley Mardelle Baumgarten, age 86 of North Freedom, passed away on Saturday, November 15, 2014 at St. Clare Meadows Care Center in Baraboo. Shirley, the daughter of the late John M. and Nellie (Hanon) Decker, was born on August 22, 1928 in Winterset, Iowa. She was united in marriage to Oscar Baumgarten on September 3, 1944. He preceded her in death on November 7, 2000. Shirley retired after 20 years of employment from Teel Plastics. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in North Freedom. She was a very loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, She will fondly be remembered as never having said a bad word about anyone.

She is survived by three children, Shari Luther of Madison, Jacki (Gary) Crawford of Baraboo, and Danny Baumgarten of North Freedom; a daughter-in-law, Linda Baumgarten of Baraboo; five grandchildren, Jill, Kevin, BreeAnn, Brady and Bailey; seven great-grandchildren, Clayton, Annika, Kianna, Grayson, Easton, Chloe, and Cameron; two sisters, Theda Jochman and Marti Gribbons; numnerous nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents and her husband, Oscar, Shirley was preceded in death by her son, Jim Baumgarten; a son-in-law, Ralph Luther; her grandson, Jeffrey Luther; a brother, Art Decker and a sister Georgia Zindars.

Funeral services were held November 20, 2014 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in North Freedom. Interment followed in Oak Hill Cemetery in North Freedom.
