DUNCAN — March 14, 1922 — May 8, 2010

Lenioel Sim Barker, Sr. was born on March 14, 1922 in Alma to Mrytle Mary Norton and Perry Barker. He had two sisters, Macie and Sylvia. Since his dad worked in the oilfield, they moved around a lot, and he attended quite a few schools. He graduated from Velma High School.

After graduation, Lenioel joined the CCC until he was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1942. He was discharged in December of 1945. Lenioel was in the Army Engineers and spent his military time in the Pacific.

Lenioel was hired by Skelly Oil Company in April 1946 pumping water near Velma, Oklahoma. On April 12, 1946, he married Wanda Faye McClanahan in Gainesville, Texas. They had four children, two girls and two boys. By being in the oilfield, he was transferred several times to: Hays, Kansas, Big Springs, Texas, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Lindsay, Oklahoma.

Lenioel was baptized in Velma in 1953 with his mother and daddy in the Velma Church of Christ. Since moving to Lindsay, he had become a member there. He loved his church very much, and he loved the people. Before becoming ill, he would go to a church parking lot and read his Bible after lunch.

Lenioel departed this life on Saturday, May 8, 2010 at Pauls Valley General Hospital in Pauls Valley. He is survived by his wife, Wanda Barker, his two sons; Lenioel Barker, Jr. and wife Paula and Bobby Glenn Barker, his two daughters; Eileen Faye Simonton and husband Danny and Beverly Kaye Barker and five grandchildren; Clint Simonton, Quinn Simonton, Justin Simonton, Johnnie Miller and Sim Barker. Lenioel also leaves behind eleven great-grandchildren; Charley Rose Simonton, Owen Simonton, Kuper Simonton, Henry Simonton, Maxon Simonton, Hutch Simonton, Baylee Barker and Beckham Barker, Seth Miller, Brett Miller, and Jacob Miller

Mr. Barker was preceded in death by his father, Perry Barker, his mother, Mrytle Barker and his two sisters, Macie Barker and Sylvia Parker.

Funeral services for Mr. Barker are set for 2p.m. Tuesday, May 11, 2010 at the Church of Christ located on Highway 19 West in Lindsay with Brant Stubblefield officiating. Interment will follow at Green Hill Cemetery in Lindsay, with the Rev. Beverly Barker officiating. Services are under direction of B.G. Boydston Funeral Home of Lindsay.
