Frederich was born in January of 1853 at Alt Posttal, Bessarabia, Russia to Christoph Friedrich and Christina (Proppenauer) Mayer.

He married Dorothea (Dora) Stump Walthers in Odessa, Russia. They had 12 children, most of them born in South Russia. Frederich was a blacksmith as well as a bell maker in Russia.

In 1892, he and Dora brought their family to America. Dora's sister, Christina Walthers Herman and her family came to America at the same time. Frederich, Dora and their children became naturalized citizens as soon as they were eligible after coming to America.

From New York they migrated to South Dakota where they farmed near Lucas, South Dakota. In 1900, they moved to Naper, Nebraska. By 1910, they were living in Burke, South Dakota.

Frederich passed away on April 18, 1913 at Lucas, South Dakota. He is buried in a cemetery west of Naper, Nebraska.

Frederich is survived by his wife, Dora; five daughters, Elizabeth, Katherine, Johana, Lydia and Martha; four sons, Gottlieb, John, Daniel and Frederich Jr; and his mother, Christina Mayer.

He was preceded in death by his father, Christoph Friedrich Mayer; two infant sons, William and Samuel Mayer; and an infant daughter, Mary Mayer.
