She married Frederich Mayer in Odessa, South Russia. To this union twelve children were born. Most of them were born in Russia.
In 1892, Frederich and Dora brought their family to America. Dora's sister, Christina Walthers Herman and her family came to America at the same time. The family arrived in New York. Frederich, Dora and their children became naturalized citizens as soon as they were eligible after coming to America.
From New York they migrated to South Dakota where they farmed near Lucas, South Dakota. In 1900, they moved to Naper, Nebraska. By 1910, they were living in Burke, South Dakota.
Dora passed away in 1934 at Fairfax, South Dakota. She is buried in a cemetery at Fairfax.
She is survived by four daughters, Katherine, Johana, Lydia and Martha; and four sons, Gottlieb, John, Daniel and Frederich Jr.
Dora was preceded in death by her husband, Frederich; two daughters, Elizabeth and Mary (infant); two infant sons, William and Samuel; and her parents, Johann Georg and Dorothea Walthers.
