(Special to The Daily Courier.)

MOORELAND, Ind., Sept. 12 - Henry Brown, aged 74 years, a Civil war veteran and a pioneer resident of this county, died at his home here Friday night at 9 o'clock. He is survived by six children: Harvey, Alonzo, Edgar, Mrs. William Schweikhardt, Mrs. Uriah Paul and Mrs. Edward Abbott.
Mr. Brown was born in 1840, in Yadkin county, North Carolina, and came to this county with his parents when a small boy. In a few years, they moved to Georgia, but when the Civil war sentiment was running high in the South, they returned to Henry county, as they were strictly opposed to cessation. In 1864, he was drafted into the Union and was in several engagements in the south. He was mustered out of the service the next year and then returned to Henry county. He, with two brothers, bought the Lewis Fouts farm and from then his prosperity continued. A few years ago, he was the owner of nearly four hundred acres of the best land in this section of the county.
Organized Mooreland Bank.
As the population and prosperity of the community increased, Mr. Brown saw that the demand for banking facilities were more pronounced. Accordingly, in September of 1902 he, with several others, organized the Mooreland State bank. As a farmer or banker he was conservative in thought and action and had the unbounded confidence of the community. He was never a member of any religious sect or secret order and his life was governed by the principles of equality and fair dealing.
He was married in 1867 to Hannah Smith and to the union was born twelve children, of which the six named survive him. Although his own educational opportunities were limited, he saw the advantage of an education and supported schools of the community. His has been a well spent life.
The funeral will be held at the home Sunday and interment will be made here.
